OUR TEAM

Kinapiskw'k Self Defense was created by a specialized team of highly skilled martial artists, ex-military personnel, a police officer, and a Forensic Psychology graduate student. Our methodology was developed for any woman to combat learned helplessness, victim mentality, and abuse. Our incredible team is truly the heart of our program. JENNIFER PICTOU

Founder & Head Instructor

Jennifer (Mi'kmaq) started Kinapiskw'k in response to the 25th anniversary of her cousin's disappearance. She is a 5th Degree Black Belt having studied Ketsugo, a style of mixed martial arts, for 30 years and has been a regionally rated fighter in New England, Jennifer loves instructing martial arts programs and women's self defense courses in addition to teaching community groups, Upward Bound, and college campus safety. She is an enrolled member of the Aroostook Band of Micmacs.

CHRIS CRONKHITE

Consultant & Instructor

Chris has 35 years experience in martial arts, holding a 6th Degree Black Belt and is a Marine Corps veteran. His work includes teen leadership programs and yearly women's self defense courses in addition to teaching martial arts classes for all ages. Chris inspires innovation throughout Kinapisw'k Self Defense.

MITCH WHEELER

Consultant 

Mitch has 27 years experience as a dedicated police officer.  He holds a 3rd Degree Black Belt with 15 years experience teaching martial arts and self defense classes.  His experience as an Air Force veteran and dog handler with local law enforcement lends decisive action to our training methodology.

AUDREY PICTOU

Consultant

Audrey (Mi'kmaq) has a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and is currently a graduate student in Forensic Psychology at Southern New Hampshire University where she is focused on the issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. Audrey is committed to providing students with the mental skills and tools necessary to continue their warrior journey. She is an enrolled member of the Aroostook Band of Micmacs.

DANIEL FLEMING

Assistant Instructor

Daniel has worked with the public for many years and is an enthusiastic supporter of self defense for women. His can-do attitude and abilities assist in making each program a success.
